President Hoover was elected in 1928. Hoover was a president that people didn't think that did a lot for them. He believed in rugged individualism. This meant that every person should count on themselves and their family. They should not depend on the government. He said, "We in America today are nearer to final triumph over poverty then every before in the history of any land." During Hoovers presidency the economy continues to decrease. Hoover stated in 1930, "i do not believe that the power and duty of the general government ought to be extended to the relief of individual suffering.. The lesson should be constantly enforced that through the people support the government, the government should NOT support the people."
Hoover was blamed for the depression by the people, they claimed he was the reason things didn't get better. As the Depression rose, Hoover failed to recognize the catastrophic situation the nation was in. Because of peoples thoughts Hoover was defeated in the 1932 election by Franklin D Roosevelt.
